Sal DiFonzo is a Partner with Upside Solutions, LLC, a sales management and compensation consulting firm in Scottsdale, Arizona. Upside Solutions specializes in the use of marketing strategies and use of sales resources to increase revenue and profits for its clients.
Work with clients includes organizational design, strategic sales compensation, executive compensation, sales forecasting and quota setting, and sales force deployment. Consulting engagements include work with health care, telecommunications, financial services, and high technology companies.
Business Experience
Sal DiFonzo establishes immediate credibility through his unique mix of compensation and sales experience. The first half of his career included compensation positions of increasing responsibility at Fortune 500 companies IBM, Eli Lilly, U S WEST (Qwest Communications), progressing to Director of Compensation and Benefits at Honeywell International. In addition, Sal DiFonzo was a Senior Consultant at The Alexander Group, Inc.
For the second half of his career, Sal DiFonzo became a sales professional in the wholesale mortgage banking industry. He worked his way up from junior account executive to account executive, then to sales manager, and eventually vice-president, sales. In 2006, Sal DiFonzo sold more than $200 million worth of mortgages, managing a team of account executives.
Unlike most sales compensation consultants, Sal DiFonzo’s background includes actual line experience with sales responsibility. He knows what it is like to earn compensation in 100% commission environments and base with commission/bonus plan structures. Being on the receiving end of both effective and disastrous sales management decisions gives Sal DiFonzo empathy in working with sales forces.
Education and Professional Certifications
Sal DiFonzo earned a B.A. in Economics/Business and Psychology at Cornell College and an M.S. in Human Resource Management from the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University. He holds the following professional certifications:
